Let’s consider the new layout in detail: it is advisable to do it separately for attack and defense modes, more precisely, for modes when we or, conversely, the opponent owns the ball..
If we are defending, then the main key is S: it means constant attempts to take the ball, but without breaking the rules. In wrestling, try to “squeeze” the opponent away from the goal: he can get scared and run in a direction convenient for us.
Rolls are now performed using the D key: they should be used carefully only if the opponent released the ball far away from him – otherwise the referee’s whistle will sound, and you are guaranteed to get a dangerous situation at your goal. A good moment to throw is easy to pick up when two players run towards each other.
Note: tackles from behind are fraught with removal, and therefore are categorically not recommended.
If your footballer is struggling for a flying ball, the A key will make him hit his head, and when the ball is on the ground, the same key will call another defender to help. Calling a partner is useful if the opponent is trapped on the flank and cannot make a pass: otherwise, this technique exposes an area in the defense where the forward can break.
The W key forces the goalkeeper to come forward. This is useful if the opponent’s attacker goes one-on-one or unexpectedly enters the penalty area. The danger is the ball being thrown over the goalkeeper.
The C key helps to counteract the attacker’s feints: this is useful if the defender is between the enemy and the gate.
To switch the active player, the Q key is now needed: a little unusual, but quite convenient. I advise you to set the automatic switching of players to the minimum: if you choose the player to control yourself, you can set proactive actions. To set the switching level, you must open the control menu by selecting My FIFA 07: Controls.
Note: Experience has shown that it is convenient to reconfigure the Q key to space..
Finally, the arrows are responsible for the player’s movements: no additional comments are needed here..
When attacking someone else’s gate, the action of the main keys changes. If the ball is a draw, then the Q key is still responsible for switching players, otherwise it becomes a modifier for the main actions: the player in possession of the ball becomes “active”.
To accurately pass the ball to your partner’s feet, you need the S key. The Q + S combination will force you to pass the ball on horseback: this is useful if the paths are blocked, but this makes it easier for the opponent to intercept the pass. A related key is W, which allows you to pass on the move. The pass turns out to be weak, so it is convenient for quickly developing an attack in the absence of defenders nearby. The Q + W combination allows you to make a cross pass on the move, which allows you to quickly move from defender to attack.
Pressing the Pass and Arrow keys simultaneously indicates the direction of the ball. If the arrows are not pressed, the pass will be directed in the direction the player is looking. The duration of pressing the S key indicates whether to pass to the nearest partner or what is next..
A quick successive press of S-S is necessary if the ball approaches your player after a pass: the player will pass the ball further on touch. Of course, accuracy suffers…
If you press E + Shift + arrow right after the pass, then the recipient of the pass will throw the ball to himself on touch and quickly go on the attack.
The D key will help to make a canopy: if the player is not far from the opponent’s goal, then the ball will go to the penalty area, otherwise just to free space in the chosen direction. The Q + D combination will help make a long, but inaccurate overhang. With a flank breakout, the D-D combination is more useful: a strong chamber will follow in the direction of the gate.
Shot – key A. When hitting, you need to follow the strip above the player’s name: if it is short, then the strike will be weak, if too long, then the ball simply will not go into the goal. Pressing A-A twice will force the forward to hit the goal outright, if the goal is close, and defenders interfere with calm processing. The combination Z + A – strong low kick, Q + A – to throw the ball over the goalkeeper, C + A – strong kick.
Pressing the C key forces the player to take the ball under him. If this happens while running, then the player stops abruptly – and the opponent often runs past. If you run in the opposite direction, then you can temporarily free yourself from the guardianship of the defender. If pressing occurs in a static position of the player, then our ward begins to defend the ball: immediately after this, you can make a “hidden”, that is, an unexpected pass.
The Z key is necessary for feints, false hits and passes that deceive the enemy: to implement them, you need to quickly press S-Z or A-Z together with the arrows. If the player is approaching the ball, then the combination S + Z will make him miss.
The Q key pressed after the pass means that the player who passed the pass will support the attack. If you press the pass key S again, as a result, the players will play a wall.
In the case when there is only one defender in front of us, feints will help. An example of a feint is the successive pressing of the arrows perpendicular to the movement direction while holding down the Shift key. Various pressing sequences and additionally holding C and Z change feints. The trick is not to hold Shift all the time, but only press it at critical moments..
Note: in FIFA 07, the number of feints has been significantly reduced, and some have become nominal – only a few stars can perform them.
Holding down the E key together with the arrows makes the football player run. Pressing the Shift key additionally makes the player accelerate more: this is useful if he is in possession of the ball and there are no defenders in front. It should be noted that this consumes a lot of energy. In addition, taking the ball away from a fast-running player is easy – you have to make sure that none of the defenders is around.
