How to Install the PS2 BIOS in PCSX2 on PC

Installation is straightforward, but two common mistakes trip up many users: wrong folder location and incorrect file naming. Get both right and PCSX2 will detect the file automatically.

  1. Open File Explorer and navigate to DocumentsPCSX2bios. This folder is created automatically when you first run PCSX2. If it doesn’t exist yet, launch PCSX2 once to generate it.
  2. Copy all the dumped BIOS files into this folder.

AetherSX2 accepts the file directly — no special folder structure is required during setup.

AetherSX2 development is officially paused. The developer stepped back from the project and the app no longer receives updates. Community-maintained forks — NetherSX2 and ArmSX2 — have continued development where it left off. If you’re starting fresh on Android, these forks are worth looking into. Only download emulator apps from verifiable sources; avoid APK files from unverified download aggregators.

Choosing the Right BIOS Region

Your dumped BIOS file carries the region of the PS2 it came from. Using a BIOS that doesn’t match your game’s region can cause boot errors, missing audio tracks, or incorrect timing. The four regional variants are:
