Every GTA 3 cheat code across all platforms is listed below — PC keyboard inputs, PlayStation button sequences, Xbox, Switch, and the Bluetooth keyboard workaround for mobile and Netflix. Quick note before you start: several cheats were removed in the 2021 Definitive Edition. Each section below marks what’s disabled so you don’t waste time hammering codes that simply won’t register.

How to Enter Cheats in GTA 3: Key Things to Know

Before punching in any codes, a few rules apply across every version of the game — and ignoring them is how people corrupt save files or miss out on trophies they actually wanted.

Complete the opening mission first. GTA 3 locks certain systems until Claude is “free” to roam Liberty City. If cheats aren’t responding, finish the first mission and try again.

Save before activating anything. Most cheats can’t be cleanly deactivated. Re-entering a code shows a “cheat deactivated” message, but the effects often linger. A pre-cheat save gives you an escape route.

Don’t save while a cheat is active. This is the one that catches people out. In GTA 3 specifically, saving with an active cheat — particularly the pedestrian riot codes — can permanently corrupt that save slot. Not temporarily mess it up. Permanently.

Cheats disable Trophies and Achievements. Use a dedicated cheat save file, separate from any completion run. Once cheats are active in a session, that session’s trophy eligibility is gone.

Cross-platform inputs in the Definitive Edition. On PC, you can use a connected controller to enter console button sequences (useful for Big Head Mode, which has no keyboard equivalent). On console, USB keyboards can trigger PC-style text inputs. That said, results vary — if one input method fails, try the platform’s native method.

Big Head Mode is new to the Definitive Edition. It’s triggered by the Konami Code — Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right — followed by two face buttons. On PlayStation that’s Circle then X. On Xbox it’s B then A. On Switch it’s A then B. There is currently no keyboard-only method to trigger this on PC.

The TORTOISE/TURTOISE variation is a known quirk — both spellings activate full armour, a holdover from the original PC release that Rockstar never patched out.

Switch button naming follows the Nintendo layout — A is the right face button, B is the bottom, X is the top, Y is the left. The bumpers and triggers map to L/R and ZL/ZR respectively. Enter sequences during open-world play; the game won’t register inputs mid-cutscene.

GTA 3 Cheats on Mobile and Netflix

This is where things get a bit more involved. The mobile and Netflix versions of GTA 3 — both Android and iOS — use the PC text-input cheat system, not button sequences. No on-screen keyboard prompt appears by default, which leaves most players stuck.

There are two practical routes here.

Bluetooth keyboard (recommended). Connect any Bluetooth keyboard to your Android or iOS device before launching the game. Once paired and active, go into Options, then the Accessibility tab. An Enter Cheat Code field appears there — it’s hidden unless a physical keyboard is connected. From that menu, type the same PC codes listed in the table above. This is the cleanest method and requires no third-party apps.

Keyboard overlay apps. Various apps let you display a virtual keyboard over the game interface. These do work for cheat input, but given that they involve third-party software with screen overlay permissions, the risk profile is higher. If you go this route, stick to well-reviewed apps from official storefronts and understand you’re doing so at your own discretion.

The Bluetooth keyboard method is genuinely underreported — most guides skip straight to “use a keyboard app” without mentioning that the Accessibility tab unlock is built into the game itself. No workaround needed if you have a keyboard handy.

Cheats That Don’t Work in Definitive Edition

Rockstar quietly removed a handful of cheats when GTA 3 Definitive Edition launched in November 2021. These codes still function in the original PS2 release, the PS3/Xbox 360 ports, and the pre-Definitive PC version — but entering them in the remaster produces no response.

One pattern worth noting: the Definitive Edition disabled the Wanted Level modifiers on console but kept the PC text versions of Raise/Lower Wanted working. That inconsistency isn’t a bug — community testing suggests the console button sequences were deliberately removed in the remaster, while the text inputs appear to have survived the transition intact. If wanted level manipulation matters to you and you’re on console, a USB keyboard connected to your PS5 or Xbox lets you type MOREPOLICEPLEASE / NOPOLICEPLEASE directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do GTA 3 cheats disable saves permanently?

No — but they do disable Trophies and Achievements for that session. Saving while a cheat is active is the real risk, as it can corrupt the save file. Save before activating any cheat, and reload that file when you’re done.

Why isn’t my GTA 3 PC cheat working?

Most commonly: you’re in a menu, cutscene, or haven’t completed the opening mission yet. GTA 3 requires Claude to have free roam before cheats respond. Also double-check spelling — TORTOISE and TURTOISE both work for armour, but other codes need to be exact.
