The Sims 2 Cheats for the Legacy Collection
Complete cheat codes for The Sims 2 Legacy Collection on PC, including money cheats, needs cheats, build mode tweaks, and Shift+Click shortcuts to control your gameplay.
The Sims 2 Cheats for the Legacy Collection
Open the cheat console with Ctrl + Shift + C, type your code, press Enter, then type exit to close. The two most-used cheats are motherlode (adds 50,000 simoleons) and maxMotives (fills every need bar on the lot). For Shift+Click cheats, you’ll need to enter boolProp testingcheatsenabled true first — those don’t show up in the in-game help registry at all.
The Sims 2 Legacy Collection brought the 2004 classic back to PC in full working order, and the cheat system came with it intact. This is the entry where a lot of the series staples — proper money cheats, needs control, aspiration manipulation — first appeared. The in-game console does have a “help” command that lists codes, but it’s a wall of text with no explanation of what anything actually does. What follows is the practical version of that list.
How to Enable Sims 2 Cheats
Press Ctrl + Shift + C at any point during gameplay — on a lot, in the neighbourhood view, anywhere. A text bar appears at the top of the screen. Type your cheat exactly as written below (The Sims 2 is case-sensitive in some codes, so match capitalisation), press Enter, and the effect applies immediately.
One thing to know: the console gives almost no feedback. No “cheat applied” confirmation, no sound cue. For money cheats, glance at your household funds in the bottom-right corner. For needs cheats, watch the motives panel. If nothing changed, check your spelling — a single wrong character and the code silently does nothing.
Type exit and press Enter to close the console when you’re done, or just press Escape.
Sims 2 Money Cheats
| Cheat | Effect |
|---|---|
| kaching | Adds 1,000 simoleons to household funds |
| motherlode | Adds 50,000 simoleons to household funds |
| familyFunds [lastname] [amount] | Sets household funds to an exact number — e.g. familyFunds Goth 100000 |
| familyFunds [lastname] +[amount] | Adds a specific amount — e.g. familyFunds Goth +25000 |
| familyFunds [lastname] -[amount] | Removes a specific amount — note no space between +/- and the number |
familyFunds is the cheat that sets The Sims 2 apart from its predecessor. In The Sims 1, you were stuck looping rosebud or the semicolon exploit to stack cash. Here you can target a specific household by last name and set their funds to any exact value. This also works from the neighbourhood screen, so you can adjust finances for a household you’re not currently playing without loading their lot.
One edge case worth flagging: if a household has multiple members with different last names, use the family name the game assigned when the household was created. If you’re unsure, the family name appears at the top of the load screen when you select their lot.
Sims 2 Needs Cheats and Mood Cheats
Good news if you just want your sims to stop complaining for five minutes.
| Cheat | Effect |
|---|---|
| maxMotives | Fills all need bars for every sim currently on the lot |
| motiveDecay off | Freezes all needs — bars stop dropping entirely |
| motiveDecay on | Restores normal needs decay |
The Sims 2 calls needs “motives” in cheat syntax, which trips people up the first time. maxMotives is a single-shot fix — it maxes every bar right now but doesn’t stop them from draining again. Pair it with motiveDecay off and your sims are effectively frozen in a perpetually comfortable state until you decide otherwise.
That said, motiveDecay off affects all sims on the lot, including NPC visitors. If you’re running a business lot or throwing a party, everyone present gets locked needs — which can actually be handy if you want guests to stay indefinitely without tantrums.
There’s also a Shift+Click route via the mailbox (covered in the Shift+Click section below) that does the same thing without touching the console. Useful if you’re mid-gameplay and don’t want to break flow.
The Move Objects Cheat Does Less Than You’d Expect — Use It Alongside Quarter Tile Placement
This is where The Sims 2 diverges significantly from what players expect coming in from later entries in the series.
moveObjects on does not give you free-form or gridless placement. What it actually does:
- Lets you pick up and reposition objects that are normally locked — the mailbox, garbage bin, puddles from broken plumbing, even sims themselves
- Removes the distance-between-objects restriction, so furniture can clip into each other
- Lets you move or delete objects while sims are actively using them (useful for resetting stuck sims)
- Allows you to grab props that sims pull out mid-interaction — want to steal a sim’s book mid-read? You can do that
The gridless placement people associate with later Sims games doesn’t exist here natively. Instead, the more useful tool for precise building is setQuarterTilePlacement on, which drops object placement to quarter-tile increments. After enabling it, press Ctrl + F in build mode to toggle between normal and quarter-tile snapping. Combined with moveObjects, this gives you far more control over cramped layouts without things feeling like they’re fighting a grid.
Fair warning: always test that sims can actually path to and use objects you’ve rearranged. Quarter-tile placement can create configurations that look great in build mode but block routing entirely in live mode.
Live Mode Cheats
| Cheat | Effect |
|---|---|
| aging off / aging on | Stops or restores aging for the current household — must re-enter when switching households |
| disablePuppyKittenAging off | Stops pets from aging (Pets expansion required) |
| aspirationLevel [0–5] | Sets the current sim’s short-term aspiration meter level |
| aspirationPoints [number] | Adds aspiration points to spend in the Rewards tab |
| lockAspiration on / off | Freezes aspiration score for all sims on the lot |
| unlockCareerRewards | Unlocks career reward objects for the current sim regardless of career progress |
| setHour [0–23] | Jumps the clock — 0 = midnight, 13 = 1 pm, 23 = 11 pm |
| forcetwins | Forces the next birth to produce twins — enter while a sim is pregnant |
| slowMotion [0–8] | Slows gameplay — 0 is normal, 8 is extremely slow (useful for screenshots) |
| stretchSkeleton [number] | Scales a sim’s height — 1.0 is default, 1.3 makes them noticeably taller, 0.8 shorter |
| boolProp testingcheatsenabled true | Unlocks all Shift+Click cheats |
| addNeighborToFamilyCheat on | Unlocks the “Add to Family” Shift+Click option on non-household sims |
| ageSimsCheat on | Unlocks the “Set Age” Shift+Click option to manually change a sim’s life stage |
A few notes on the less obvious ones. aging off only applies to the household you’re currently playing — the moment you switch to another family, aging resets to normal for them. You have to re-enter the cheat each time. stretchSkeleton is one of the stranger tools in the console; it affects the active sim and the change persists through save, so don’t use a value too far from 1.0 unless you want a permanently stretched or squashed household member. Community testing suggests values outside the 0.7–1.4 range can cause minor animation glitches.
Build and Buy Mode Cheats
| Cheat | Effect |
|---|---|
| moveObjects on | Move or delete normally locked objects |
| setQuarterTilePlacement on / off | Enables quarter-tile snapping — toggle with Ctrl+F after enabling |
| roofSlopeAngle [15–75] | Sets the angle of all roof slopes on the lot — 45 is default |
| boolProp allow45degreeAngleOfRotation true | Allows diagonal furniture placement — use < or > keys while placing objects |
| changeLotClassification [low/middle/high] | Sets which socioeconomic townie group moves into an apartment (Apartment Life expansion) |
| clearLotClassValue | Removes lot classification from an apartment lot (Apartment Life expansion) |
The diagonal rotation cheat — boolProp allow45degreeAngleOfRotation true — is one that a lot of builders didn’t know existed in Sims 2 because it doesn’t surface anywhere in the interface. Once enabled, use the < or > keys while holding a piece of furniture in buy mode to rotate it in 45-degree increments instead of the standard 90. This is particularly useful for angled rooms and corner placements that look unnatural at strict right angles.
roofSlopeAngle accepts values between 15 and 75. The default is 45 degrees. Lower values give you flatter, more modern-looking rooflines; higher values produce steep, dramatic pitches closer to gothic or Victorian architecture. There’s also an individualRoofSlopeAngle listed in the in-game help registry, but the interface already has a tool that lets you set an angle and apply it per-piece by clicking individual roof segments — that’s faster than the console command for selective adjustments.
Sims 2 Shift+Click Cheats
These cheats require boolProp testingcheatsenabled true entered in the console first. After that, hold Shift and click on a sim, the mailbox, or various objects to access hidden interaction menus. None of these appear in the in-game help list.
| Click Target | Option | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Your Sim | Set Aspiration | Change the sim’s lifetime aspiration goal |
| Your Sim | Change Suit | Change outfits, including removing all clothing |
| Your Sim | Change Fit | Snaps the sim to fit body shape |
| Your Sim | Set Birthday | Moves the sim’s age bar to 1 day remaining in current life stage |
| Your Sim | Set Age | Requires ageSimsCheat on first — pick any life stage |
| Your Sim | Spawn | Generates debug objects; can also spawn a magic lamp or voodoo doll |
| Your Sim | Display > Show Gender Preference | Popup showing who the sim is autonomously attracted to |
| Your Sim | Give Cellphone | Adds the NOYIN 2680 to inventory |
| Your Sim | Give MP3 Player | Adds the Cozmo MP3 player to inventory |
| Your Sim | Give Game | Adds the LeTournament Decahedron XS handheld to inventory |

| Your Sim | Kill > Die By Flies / Give Dead Token | Kills the selected sim immediately |
| Unselected Sim | More > Make Furious With This Sim | Instantly tanks the relationship between the selected and target sim |
| Non-household Sim | Make Sim My Contact | Adds the sim to your relationship panel without them moving in |
| Non-household Sim | More > More > Add to Family | Requires addNeighborToFamilyCheat on first — moves them into the household |
| Mailbox | Make NPC | Spawns a chosen NPC type — burglar, skunk, random passerby, and more |
| Mailbox | Make Pet > Dog/Cat/Kitten/Puppy | Spawns a pet directly onto the lot |
| Mailbox | Neighborhood > Make Me Know Everyone | Adds all neighbourhood sims to your relationship panel |
| Mailbox | Neighborhood > Make Friends For Me | Sets best friend status with sims already in your relationship panel |
| Mailbox | Neighborhood > Invite All Neighbors | Spawns every sim from the neighbourhood onto the current lot simultaneously |
| Mailbox | House > Make All Happy | Maxes needs for all household members — same as maxMotives |
| Mailbox | House > Make All Needs Static | Freezes needs for the entire household — same as motiveDecay off |
| Mailbox | House > Make All Needs Dynamic | Restores normal need changes — same as motiveDecay on |
| Plumbing Objects | Set Dirty State | Manually set clean level, clogged status, or maintenance state on sinks, toilets, showers |
The mailbox is the most powerful Shift+Click target on any lot. “Invite All Neighbors” in particular is chaotic in the best way — every sim in the neighbourhood shows up at once, which can tank lot performance but is genuinely useful for things like career networking or rapidly building relationship scores across many sims in one session.
The “Spawn” option on individual sims deserves a mention too. It generates a debug tombstone object with a huge list of sub-spawns, including a magic lamp (three wishes mechanic, works fully) and a voodoo doll (target any sim on the lot). These are legitimate gameplay items that normally require either luck or specific career paths to acquire — the Shift+Click spawn skips all of that.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Sims 2 cheats work in the Legacy Collection?
Yes. All cheats listed here were verified functional in The Sims 2 Legacy Collection as of January 2025. The cheat console activates the same way — Ctrl + Shift + C — and the codes carry over from the original release without modification.
Does using cheats disable achievements in The Sims 2 Legacy Collection?
The Sims 2 does not have an achievement system, so there’s nothing to disable. Use cheats freely without consequences to any progression system.
Why isn’t my cheat working?
The Sims 2 console is case-sensitive in places and gives no error feedback. Double-check capitalisation — maxMotives is not the same as maxmotives. Also confirm you’re on the right screen: some cheats like familyFunds work from the neighbourhood view, while others like maxMotives require you to be on a loaded lot.
Can I use boolProp testingcheatsenabled true safely?
Mostly yes. The testing cheats were originally debug tools, and some of the Spawn sub-options can create objects that affect lot state in unexpected ways. Stick to the options listed in this guide and avoid spawning unfamiliar debug objects on a save you care about. Always keep a backup save before experimenting.
Does the aging cheat apply to all households at once?
No. aging off only applies to the household currently being played. When you save and switch to a different family, their aging runs normally unless you enter the cheat again on their lot. There is no global aging toggle available through the console in The Sims 2.
