Prey Passwords and Keycodes: All Safe Codes and Door Codes

Most Prey keycodes fall into two categories: a small set of fixed codes that are identical every playthrough, and a much larger group of dynamically generated codes that change each run. The fixed ones are listed in the table below — enter them directly. For everything else, you need to know where to look on Talos 1, because the actual number will be different in your save. This guide covers both, organized by station area so you’re not hunting blind.

Fixed Keycodes That Never Change

Ten codes in Prey are hardcoded — same digits, every playthrough, no exceptions. These open some of the most useful safes and rooms on Talos 1, and you can use them the moment you reach the location regardless of whether you’ve found the corresponding note or email.

A few worth flagging: 0451 for Morgan’s office is a classic Arkane nod (it appears in Dishonored too), and the Psychotronics Armory code 8714 gets you into one of the better early weapon caches on the station. The Debriefing Room safe at 5150 is reachable very early and holds useful fabrication materials.

How to Find Dynamically Generated Passwords

Here’s where it gets more interesting — and more nuanced than most guides admit. The majority of Prey’s keycodes are procedurally assigned at the start of each playthrough. The code itself changes, but where the code is stored does not. Arkane always leaves the answer near the lock, usually within the same room or one adjacent to it.

Three main sources cover almost everything:

  • Physical notes — sticky notes on desks, clipboards on floors, papers tucked behind objects. These are the most common delivery mechanism by a wide margin.
  • Emails on workstations — most computers in Prey are either unlocked or hackable at low skill levels. Scan the inbox; codes frequently appear in routine internal comms.
  • TranScribe audio logs — some codes are spoken aloud rather than written. Characters leaving voice memos for colleagues often include access information.

One non-obvious source: live NPCs. Aaron Ingram in Psychotronics gives you the Armory keycode if you spare him instead of killing him. The cook in Crew Quarters Kitchen will physically unlock the freezer in front of you — watch the animation and you’ll see the code entered. Prey rewards observation almost as much as exploration.

On hacking: if you’d rather skip the hunting entirely, the Hacking skill in the Scientist tree bypasses keycoded doors and computers outright. Hacking 1 covers security level 1 systems, and each subsequent level unlocks the next tier — but the Neuromod cost scales steeply. Hacking 3 costs significantly more than Hacking 1, so weigh that against the time spent searching for a note.

Location-by-Location Keycode Breakdown

Everything below uses dynamic codes — your numbers will differ from someone else’s playthrough. What won’t differ is where to find them.

Crew Quarters

Code / PasswordWhere to Find It
Fitness Center keycodeRead “New Gym Code” email at the Concierge workstation — also on a note in Cabins B Restroom
Abigail Foy’s passwordNote under Abigail’s desk — you need to physically crouch and look underneath
Calvino’s Safe keycodeListen to “Notes 3” audio recording on Calvino’s workstation in his cabin
Mail Room keycodeNote in Anders Kline’s habitation pod
Freezer keycodeNo note — watch the cook in the Kitchen unlock the freezer and observe the input
Executive Suites keycodeThree different sources: “Food Request for Alex” email on Will Mitchell’s workstation; note stuck to a table in the Recycler Room; “Personal Training Session” email on Emma Beatty’s workstation in Fitness Center

That Executive Suites code showing up in three separate locations is Arkane covering their bases — it’s a high-traffic destination and they clearly didn’t want players stuck. Worth knowing if you’ve found one version and want to confirm.

Quick Tips for Finding Codes Without Hacking

A few patterns emerge once you’ve spent enough time on Talos 1 that make hunting keycodes significantly faster.

Check the workstation first, not the room. Roughly 60% of dynamic codes are stored as emails or notes within arm’s reach of the locked terminal or the person responsible for that area. If there’s a workstation near a locked door, read every email before exploring further.

Bodies carry answers. Multiple codes in this game — Kimberly Bomo’s Maintenance Tunnel note, Erica Teague’s Security Station safe code, the Arboretum password near Iris Stein — are on corpses. Scan every body you find, not just for loot but for notes and TranScribes.

TranScribes are underused. Many players listen to audio logs for lore and skip past the operational content. Three codes in this guide come exclusively from audio recordings: the Pilot’s Lounge, Parts Storage, and the Supply Closet via Calvino’s TranScribe on the Exterior. If a dead character has a TranScribe, play it to the end.

Some codes appear in multiple locations. The Executive Suites keycode in Crew Quarters is obtainable from three separate sources. If a room or area is plot-critical, Arkane tends to leave redundant access paths. Don’t assume you’ve missed the only copy.

Leverage 1 unlocks one exclusive code location. The Ballistics Lab safe note is physically blocked by a crate — you need Leverage 1 from the Engineer skill tree to move it. That’s the only keycode in the game gated behind a non-Hacking ability, so it’s worth remembering if you’re running a non-Hacking build.

FAQ: Common Keycode Questions

Do keycodes carry over between playthroughs?

Fixed codes always work. Dynamic codes are re-randomized every new game — same location for the note or audio log, but different digits. If you’re replaying Prey, you’ll need to find the sources again rather than reusing saved numbers.

What happens if I miss a note that had a dynamic code?

The note is still there — Prey doesn’t despawn collectibles. Go back to the source location and retrieve it. If the NPC who would have given you the code is dead and you can’t find their TranScribe or note, hacking is the fallback option for most locked areas.

Is the Psychotronics Armory code always 8714?

Yes. The Psychotronics Armory is one of the fixed codes — 8714 works every playthrough. You can also get it from Aaron Ingram if he’s alive, but the code itself is static regardless.

Can I open locked doors without any keycode or hacking?

Sometimes. GLOO Cannon foam can reach grates and vents that bypass certain locked areas. A few rooms also have broken windows or alternate entrances. Prey’s level design almost always offers a secondary path — if you’re stuck on a locked door and have neither the code nor hacking, look for a vent or exterior route.

Are there any keycodes tied to missable content?

Aaron Ingram’s Armory code in Psychotronics is the clearest example of a choice-dependent code — but since 8714 is the fixed backup, you’re not locked out. The cook unlocking the Crew Quarters freezer is technically observable content that can be missed if the cook is dead by the time you reach the Kitchen, but the freezer itself isn’t critical to any main objective.

Bookmark this page for reference as you move through Talos 1 — the station is large enough that jumping between areas is common, and having the fixed codes on hand saves real time. For the dynamic ones, the source location is always more reliable than any number someone else recorded in their playthrough.
