Tower Defense genre, extremely popular on mobile devices, on PC and consoles is far from that noticeable. Of course, there are similar projects there, but “clean” TD is not so much – as a rule, the main focus is on the other, using the database detuning and the extermination of the attackers of its enemy hordes as one of the minor elements of the gameplay. The reason is clear – at the present time for such serious platforms is already somewhat unolished, limit the gameplay only the construction of towers and observation of gun shooting.
Fresh example of a mixture of genres – The RiftBreaker from Polish developers from Exor Studios. Fabul is uncomplicated: cosmic pioneers colonize the planet populated by hostile flora and fauna. Think, with such a string not worth waiting for nothing? Mistake!
Factorio for “Teapots”?
The Riftbreaker practically collected from pieces of other games, as if puzzle. The authors decided to unlimited with standard Tower Defense gameplay, and go where. Among the sources of inspiration, Factorio, Alien Shooter, classic RTS and even ARPG like Diablo. But approach with standard standards, hanging shortcuts, it is not worth it – everything is more interesting here, and borrowing from other projects, though noticeable, but neatly fit to each other and do not leave the impression of ababa as a blind monster.
The priority task after disembarking is to provide the electricity base.
There was a place even the plot – and you can not say that he was not paid enough attention. In the distant future, mankind proceeds to the development of the distinguished worlds. Captain Ashley Novak goes to the Planet Galatia-37 to prepare it for the coming colonization. Riftbreaker (this is exactly what kind of researchers are called here) is helpless without a huge fur suit, which has no mind, – Ashley is calling him by Mr. Rigz. Ashley and Mr. Rigz do not mind to chat – their dialogues serve as prompts for further actions, and just entertain the player: listen to the chatter girl and the robot sometimes funny, let it sometimes bother to do things and study our new refinement.
Galatia-37 – Planet Lovely and Horrible. This is not a lifeless stone or ice ball, but a guming variety of peace. Beauty killer – Ashley not in vain went on the road in the company of fur: the local flora (and sometimes fauna) is not at all glad to the newcomers and tries to destroy them, not looking at losses. That she can be opposed to, except for the cantells of Riftbreaker and the fireflow of Mr. Rigza? Of course, build a calm and silence island in such a bright and predatory world. This island, however, is able to argue with fire, bullets and rockets, providing normal working conditions for the main character – during the passage of the campaign it will have to build a portal to install sustainable communication from the earth.
In the desert there are its own characteristics – for example, you have to take into account the presence of zybuchi sand. Either you are on the islands of the usual surface, or we study special tiles to create a solid foundation.
If the plot and strict chain of tasks are not interested, and you need clean, concentrated gameplay, you can pay attention to the survival mode, where there are no clear goals, but it is possible to configure the game for yourself by changing the settings from the duration of the script to the damage of enemies.
At the initial stage of passage The Riftbreaker most reminds Factorio: the need to independently produce resources and provide energy to the growing base, the first timid raids of local literality, the simplest production chains … It seems a little more, and you can forget about the defense of the base, trusting the guns, and the production automation itself.
But, as I said, this game should not be approached with the familiar standards. Construction of fortifications, ensuring continuous production, resource management is only one of the many elements of the gameplay The Riftbreaker. If you die only in it, it is easy to bump – no comparison with monstrose Factorio local production simulation does not go. Production chains are ridiculously short, logistics is missing as a class (any resource, in addition to liquids, is instantly teleported in general storage), so there is no point over the optimal automation.
And in this biome, it is very easy to die, carelessly shindle in the colony of acidic mushrooms.
But over a thorough defense base to think – and good. Everything is subordinate to not give aggressive fauna to devour and break your buildings. Guns, rockets, mines, lasers that tormented alien flesh – only the end point of the application of all our security efforts to ensure the safety of the base.
Mined resources, provide plants with energy and repair, protect the vulnerable points with the walls and batteries of guns – work enough, Ashley is constantly busy. It will not work here as in Factorio, admire the well-established technological process;On the contrary, always stuntness, always the lack of one resource, then the other, the base must be fixed, expand, rebuild … there is a race for technologies: the study tree is simply a huge, and to neglect them death like – without investing in science, it is unlikely to survive in such complexConditions.
Research tree, more precisely, only one of its sections. The remaining two are at least extensive.
New weapons, new buildings, improvements – all this must be studied and not forget to apply in practice. It is here that one of the few minuses lies The Riftbreaker – not the best implementation of the construction of improved buildings. Manually upgrade each – so-so fun, especially on a big database.
Not only valuable fur
Mr. Rigs will help to distract from the routine. Do not forget that he himself has a huge combat power. This is not just a scout or foreman, telling orders to building drones, but a real combat vehicle, alone capable of reflecting the enemy invasion. However, much more often we will have to fight outside the base – especially in the campaign.
Ensure the production with everything necessary, having stitched the walls on a narrow section of the card will not be released – you need to travel, studying the world. In addition to the central settlement, other areas of the planet can be visited, based on there are small towns (or large – as a soul wishes and local liveliness will allow). One cashpost – for the extraction of uranium, the second provides the influx of valuable minerals, and the third is just for the soul.
Galatea-37 especially beautiful at night. In addition to changing the time of day, nature constantly reminds itself by natural disasters from tornadoes and earthquakes to meteorite rains.
Biomas on Galatee-37 are the most diverse, and the animal world has dozens of unique creatures that differ from each other as externally and behavior. Small angry monsters, attackers with huge crowds, “arrows”, sprinkling acid and throwing huge exploding balls, nervy armor, invisible, strange stone giants – the biosphere of this planet will find than surprise.
All this fauna is also a source of resources: from biomass, remaining after battles, you can get energy, the same is true for plants – sometimes it is profitable to cut off the whole forest in the area for the sake of a couple of unnecessary megawatts. From the defeated enemies you can collect minerals, and sometimes DNA samples. With the help of the latter, it will be possible to learn about this form. Detailed information: Resource and vulnerability, damage, the amount of health – all this is entered into the database.
Kill ‘Em All
From here there is an interesting effect – Galatia-37 is not limited to the perimeter of the erected base. The world can be explored – both in search of mineral deposits, and for their own pleasure, studying new types of animals and, of course, fighting with them. The planet does not bother on the diversity of biomes: jungle, desert, acid fields, volcanic areas – each with their properties and inhabitants.
Studying research (if more precisely, fight monsters alone crowds) outside the base is no less interesting than build competent settlement protection. Ashley can study new equipment drawings and find modifications for weapons to change the gear of Mr. Rigza under itself.
Machine for killing and just a good interlocutor.
Here we have a full-fledged isometric action movie Alien Shooter: One hero against a variety of enemies, endless shooting and spectacular scenes to apply melee weapons. ArpG elements in the form of a chase for the best characteristics also in place – the fur has many parameters that can be changed, and the arms arsenal has tens of samples from sword and hammer to atomic mines and a missometer, not counting the activated skills and modifications.
In the end, flamethrower is just beautiful.
Finally, it is impossible not to note the magnificent technical condition of the project – it is perfectly optimized, and I did not observe errors and flights at all. If you try, then, of course, you can find and cons – campaign, for example, sins Grindom, who does not give advance on (a mission to search for an acidic mushroom. I will remember for a long time). The story part is hardly suitable for re-passing – it’s not only in tightening the gameplay, but also in the learning character of the campaign.
But the survival mode with its wide opportunities for customization and setting conditions of the game is a real find for lovers of such entertainment, it is thanks to the Riftbreaker that the Riftbreaker is viewed. Perhaps other planets are waiting except Galatei-37?
