Directstorage Game Loading Technology Still Will Not Be An Exclusive Windows 11
DirectStorage – technology for games that allows you to load assets from NVME SSD drives directly into video memory, without loading processor. Thus, loading and loading should be faster. DirectStorage already exists in Xbox Series, and now Microsoft transfers it to PC.
Previously, the Corporation mentioned that DirectStorage “will appear only in Windows 11”. Now Microsoft Requirmed that the technology will be available including on Windows 10, starting from version 1909 (started in November 2019). Thus, developers using new APIs will cover a wider audience.
In the message OT Microsoft The following theses can be distinguished:
- DirectStorage on Windows 11 provides additional optimization compared to the version for Windows 10.
- Developers will not have to mess with the DirectStorage support for each OS separately – the technology needs to be added to the engine only once, after which it adjusts to the player system automatically.
- DirectStorage support will not worsen the performance on PC with old drives – for example, with hard drives. There the performance of the games will remain at the same level.
To experience the advantages of DirectStorage on NVME SSD, the developers must first add technology to their project. There are no such games on PC – Microsoft started opening access to the appropriate toolkit now.
